Trumpet player Bobby Burns Jr., who plays more thann 200 dates with Eart Wind & Fire, plays in Denton on Tuesday, April 16 — at Denton High School.

That’s right. Burns has a date to play at the local high school auditorium with: the Denton High School Jazz bands and special guests Calhoun and McMath Middle School jazz bands and the Texas Woman’s University Jazz Band.

We should point out that Burns isn’t in this video because he joined the band in 2004. But his selection to the iconic band means that the trumpet player can lay on the funky groove in the manner of Earth Wind & Fire’s tradition.

Burns’ performance credits with the band include the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize award show, American Idol, a performance for President Barack Obama at the White House, two Super Bowl shows, the Grammy Awards show, and countless others. Presently, Burns continues to tour with Earth Wind and Fire, performing and traveling over 200 days a year.

“I am really excited to be part of the [Denton Independent School District]  music education program and am looking forward to performing with Denton’s highly talented students,” said Burns. “I hope this experience will educate and grow ambitious musicians.”
